Don't start with the answer. Start with the question.

02  The question

You have an idea. But what then?

There are often enough ideas.

But what problem are we actually solving?

For whom?

And is anyone really waiting for it?

That's where the work starts.

I don't arrive with the answer. I help you find the right question and make sure something happens after that.

When you need me

03  Ideate

How might we get all the good ideas on the table?

Good ideas are often already inside the organization.

  • With customers.
  • On the work floor.
  • In data.
  • In conversations.
  • During a brainstorm.
  • Or hidden inside a problem that has existed for years.

Put the people who know about it in one room.

Get everything on the table: ideas, frustrations, what customers say.

Only then do we start sorting.

What do we see?

What do we hear?

What keeps coming back?

Where is the opportunity?

Methods can include

  • Workshops
  • Co-creation
  • Design-sprint-like sessions
  • Stakeholder sessions
  • Ideation
  • Clustering
  • Prioritization

04  Focus

How might we know what is worth pursuing?

Not every idea needs to be built.

Create focus around:

  • Customer value
  • Strategic value
  • Feasibility
  • Potential impact

Choosing is the easy part.

What matters is that everyone wants to go the same way afterwards.

05  Discover

But first: let's find out.

A good idea is an assumption.

So investigate.

Calling ten customers tells you more than ten meetings.

We:

  • Talk to customers and users
  • Analyze data
  • Map assumptions
  • Build prototypes
  • Test hypotheses
  • Run experiments

Not to prove that an idea is good.

But to discover whether it is good enough to move forward.

06  Make

How might we make it real?

Once the direction becomes clear, start making.

Better something you can click on in two weeks than a plan in a quarter.

  • Prototype
  • MVP
  • New service
  • Digital product
  • Pilot
  • First version

Small enough to learn quickly. Good enough to involve real users.

Live in nine weeks, then a release every quarter based on what users asked for. Now 2,300 visitors a month.

A continuous loop of:

stakeholders → feedback → insights → new developments → measurement → improvement

This demonstrates the way How Might We works: stakeholder involvement, customer feedback, data, development and continuous iteration.

08  Learn

Build Launch Measure Learn Iterate

Live is not the end.

The product goes live.

And then the real learning starts.

Are people using it?

Does it create value?

What works?

What doesn't?

What needs to change?

You learn what a product needs to become by seeing people use it.

09  Help

Where I can help

10  Philosophy

I don't have all the answers. That's kind of the point.

I'm at my best when there isn't a complete answer yet.

Where different ideas exist.

Where interests come together.

Where something new needs to emerge.

I bring order, get people excited and make sure something gets finished every week.

Not by drawing everything out in advance.

But by discovering together what works.
